Common PAN mistakes and how to avoid them
Most PAN delays come from a handful of avoidable mistakes. Here they are, with what to do instead.
Quick answer
The most common mistakes are applying for a new PAN when one already exists, mismatched details across documents, using an individual route for an organisation, and sharing sensitive information too early. Check your route first and ask CAREALL if unsure.
1. Applying for a new PAN when one already exists
A person is generally not expected to hold more than one PAN. If a detail is wrong, use Correction / Update. If the card is missing, use Lost / Damaged.
2. Mismatched details across documents
Differences in name spelling, initials or date of birth between documents are a common cause of delay. Mention any known differences to CAREALL early.
3. Treating a card problem as a detail problem, or the reverse
A damaged card with correct details needs a reprint. A card with a wrong detail needs a correction. If both apply, say so.
4. Using an individual route for an organisation
Companies, firms, trusts and societies follow a different path with different evidence. Use Business / Organisation PAN Assistance.
5. Sharing sensitive information too early
Do not send PAN or Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, passwords or document images in a first message. CAREALL asks for what is needed through an approved route.
6. Relying on promises of guaranteed outcomes
Nobody assisting you can guarantee an official outcome or a fixed timeline. Be cautious of anyone who does.
7. Gathering documents before confirming the route
Requirements depend on the route and, for corrections, on the detail being changed. Confirm the route with CAREALL first so you prepare only what is relevant.
